U.S. Joins International Renewable Energy Agency
Founded in January of 2009, IRENA coordinates with governments and corporations to promote the advancement of all forms of renewable energy technologies. The signing into this cooperative agreement follows on the heals of the first U.S.-Canadian Clean Energy Dialogue meeting between leaders from those governments and the clean energy industry.
These moves will help to establish a global commitment to cleaner energy. IRENA already has 136 members stretching from western industrial nations to impoverished developing nations. The Agency will be headquartered in a 2.3 square mile district of Abu Dhabi that plans to generate zero waste materials and be supplied from renewable energy sources so as to have no greenhouse gas emissions.
